The Macerator is a very useful and quite unusual piece of equipment that is powered by an electric motor to drive a shredding unit allowing you to site the WC quite a distance from the main soil discharge. Brockley Plumbers can install this type of equipment. It works by taking waste from the WC pan and passing it through a type of shredder. This mashes the waste so that it is able to pass through a small bore plastic pipe ( 22mm-32mm ) away to the discharge point. The WC pan can be 20-50 metres from the discharge point if it is horizontal however this distance would be affected by a vertical run and would be restrictive. The installation of the Macerator unit is required to meet with all Building Regulations and requirements so local building authority officer must be informed and permission granted before one is fitted. There is also a requirement to run the electrical supply which will drive the motor, again needing to meet all the requirements of the current wiring regulations. There are a wide variety of Macerator units available on the market, the simplest of these is only used with a WC with the most complex of the units being used to take a complete bathroom set up i.e. WC, wash basin, bath and shower. There is also a high pressure unit which is able to take the output from a power shower. It doesn’t stop there as there are Macerator units designed for kitchen waste such as the sink, dishwasher and washing machine. Macerator units tend be very bulky however if your requirements were for a slightly smaller unit there are ones available on the market that are a little more slimline and compact in size in and are able to fit neatly behind a conventional WC pan, below the cistern, a job easily done by experts such as a Brockley Plumber .
