Is it under Guarantee?
Most new appliances are guaranteed for 12 months, during which the manufacturer is generally responsible if the unit fails or malfunctions. If the unit is deemed to have been misused you may find that the warranty will be void so ensure that you take care of the appliance and use it within the guidelines and instructions supplied by the manufacturer. Is it worth repairing?
Generally if you have bought a top quality item it may be worth the expense of a repair bill. The good news is that appliances like washing machines, dishwashers and tumble dryers can nearly always stand a repair. Whilst an appliance like a modern washing machine will routinely last around 5 years and with a bit of repair and maintenance extend its life almost indefinitely.
Cautionary notes.
Most modern items are designed so that the manufacturer can tell if you have tried to unassembled it and have taken to using strange and unusually shaped securing screws and fasteners as well as labels across joints so as to indicate a DIY access. If the appliance is still under its manufacturers warranty it is recommended that you do not try and open the unit as the company will not honour the guarantee. Appliances like a dishwasher can easily be repaired with quite a basic toolkit with others needing specialist tools. It is a good idea if you decide to have a go to give it a long hard dose of looking at first, making sure you have the right tools. Common Problems.
Appliance valves installed wrong way round. Look for direction of flow!
Kinked pipes due to harsh fitting of a unit against a wall.
Self boring valves are good but the disk cut away may drift along the pipe and block it further down the line.
Looped pipes can hold pockets of air that impedes water flow and cause the appliance to cut out.
